Commissioner Miller Calls for End of Federal Government Shutdown to Expedite Agriculture Relief
AUSTIN – The following statement may be attributed to Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller:
“It’s time to end this shutdown and get the federal government back to work. Our brave military personnel, federal law enforcement officers, and air traffic controllers are serving without pay. Our farmers and ranchers are also being left without the vital relief they depend on to keep their operations running. Stopping this shutdown is about supporting the men and women who serve our nation and feed our families.
President Trump and Secretary Rollins have been working tirelessly to end the Biden-era agriculture trade deficit and level the playing field with foreign nations who have exploited American consumers with one-sided trade deals and tariffs on American agriculture commodities for far too long. But those efforts can’t move forward while Washington remains gridlocked. We must ensure that we can deliver on our promises and provide our American farmers the support they need.
I’m calling on Congress to put the American people first and reopen our government. It’s time for the federal government to step up to the plate, protect our nation, and support the men and women who safeguard, feed, and clothe our people.”
